Our facilitated slow session is for just about everyone who loves fiddling, including:
relatively new musicians (at least two years of playing)
classical stiffs looking to play tunes for fun!
players wanting to brush up on tunes or their general playing
mature players learning a new instrument...
In short, anyone interested in musical fun and camaraderie!
Every week you will get 2, 3 or even 4 new tunes – waltzes, airs, jigs, reels, hornpipes and polkas – all at a simple or moderate level. Your repertoire of familiar tunes will grow steadily, as each week we play all our tunes, always with sheet music and always at slow-to-moderate speed. We will also enjoy some of the authentic traditions of sessions, including choosing tunes around the circle, linking tunes into sets, and quaffing our favorite beverages (we offer wine and seltzer – BYO Guinness or other beverage of choice!) along with snacks provided by the studio.
Our session will be accompanied/backed up by guitarist Cathy King, a consummate New England folk musician-singer-performer.
Who Slow Session welcomes fiddlers who can read music and have at least two years of playing experience. Players of mandolins, flutes and whistles are also invited to join in. This group is open to the general public; you do not need to be a Full Circle Studio student to participate.
When Slow Traditional Session is an 8-week class, offered 2-4x per year, usually on Wednesday evenings.
