“There is a saying that when the student is ready the teacher appears. This so beautifully describes my experience with Cathryn. Over the course of my life I’ve learned the importance of finding a teacher who can meet you where you are and then guide you onward. Not only does Cathryn meet you where you are, she honors how you got there, and encourages you to use what you already know as a resource.
Every lesson I’ve had with Cathryn was unique and very specific to what was going on in that moment, on that day. Her style of teaching is the perfect marriage of knowledge and intuition, blending logic and method with creativity and spontaneity. She guides without judgement or criticism, rather clarity and precision, using imagery and language that brings the lesson to life and makes it personal, relevant, and memorable.
Working with Cathryn feels like a sacred partnership. Through her unwavering support she cultivates confidence and assurance. And slowly, with patience and practice, an adult violinist is born.” — Emily
I wanted to thank you for telling us the story about your own struggles with learning to play the violin. I am extremely grateful that you did not give up on it. I would have missed the chance of having the most amazing / best teacher I have ever had in my life. You are amazing.
You challenge me and others way about what we thought might be possible. I never thought I could play an instrument. In my mind I was too stupid and uncoordinated to do such a thing as this. You have helped me bring that part of me out, and it is making me a better person because of it. Thank you.
I also wanted to thank you for suggesting I try being in the spotlight with a solo in Fiddlers Frolics. I have not been that scared since 1991. Something told me, "Don't worry, you got this," and something took over my hands, my mind – and all there was, was me, the bow and the violin. It was an experience above and beyond. I loved it. (P.S. Thank Pico for letting me play with him.) – Carmelo
